Belief in Help
I believe that God can help me handle my situation.
I believe that God can help me handle my situation. This sentence is deceptively simple but it contains everything I need. Not that God will make my situation disappear. Not that God will fix the alcoholic or remove all difficulty from my life. But that God can help me handle whatever I'm facing.
The shift from fixing to handling changed my expectations completely. I used to pray for circumstances to change for problems to resolve for people to behave differently. When those prayers weren't answered the way I wanted I felt abandoned by God. But I was asking for the wrong things.
God doesn't promise to control other people or eliminate life's challenges. God promises to help me handle what comes. To give me strength when I'm weak. To provide wisdom when I'm confused. To offer peace when I'm anxious. To supply courage when I'm afraid. The help is about me not about changing everyone else.
This belief sustains me through difficulties that used to overwhelm me. I may not know how I'll handle what's coming but I believe help is available. I may feel inadequate to the task but I trust I won't have to do it alone. I may be uncertain about the outcome but I'm confident I'll be given what I need to face it.
Today I can ask my Higher Power for help handling my situation rather than demanding circumstances change.
