Unconditional Faith

Faith of this type is foreign to many of us; it is unconditional.

Paths to Recovery, p. 66

I've been examining what kind of faith Step Six requires. It's different from the faith in Step Two or Step Three. Those Steps asked me to believe God could help and to make a decision to turn things over. But Step Six asks for something deeper – unconditional faith that God will remove what I'm ready to release even though I can't see how or when.

Faith of this type is foreign to many of us it is unconditional. Unconditional – no conditions no guarantees no timeline. I become entirely ready and then I trust that God will remove these defects. Not on my schedule. Not in the way I expect. Not with proof provided upfront. Just faith. Unconditional trust in a process I can't control or even fully understand.

This kind of faith is terrifying for someone who's spent their life trying to control outcomes. I want guarantees. I want to know exactly how this will work and when I'll see results. But Step Six asks me to let go of those demands. To become ready and trust God completely. No conditions.

I'm learning that unconditional faith grows through practice not through understanding.

If I'm demanding guarantees before I become entirely ready, I can notice that's conditional faith. Unconditional faith says: I'll become ready and trust You completely with the outcome. I don't need to understand how or when – I just need to trust that You'll remove what I'm ready to release.

Today’s Reminder

Step Six requires unconditional faith without guarantees.
